I thought everybody knew about these, but saw a post here on this subreddit about this, so here goes.
The company called VDO makes what are called Redi-Sensors that are low cost ($40 ea on Amazon with free shipping) and they are pre-programmed so you can do the re-learn procedure yourself.
A tire shop can register them with a TPMS scan tool, which is quicker, but you can do the re-learn yourself with a paperclip or a bit of wire with an alligator clip attached. http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40601
Note that the re-learn procedure may vary slightly for different years.

I put these on my Maxima several years ago. The tire-shop guy said 'Nah, those aftermarket sensors never work', but the lack of the yellow warning light on my dash made him admit that he was wrong. (He runs a great tire store, he's a nice guy ---and they even have a dog, so it's not like it was an argument, but I digress)
